A 34-year-old man, Aje Olaniyi, was on Wednesday, arraigned in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ court over alleged N400,000 fraud.

The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a one-count charge of fraud.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence sometime in March 2024, at Odo-Ado Area in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant and others at large conspired among themselves to commit the offence.

Mr Oriyomi said that the defendant obtained the sum of N400,000 from the complainant, Mr Alabi Sunday.

He said that the defendant collected the said amount from the complainant by selling a land to him, which he resold to another person without informing the complainant.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 421 and 329(3) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

Counsel to the defendant, Mrs Adunni Olanipekun, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until June 30, for hearing.
