Man, 41, in court for allegedly stealing school property worth N1.3 million

A 41-year-old man, Adeniyi Friday, on Wednesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing school property worth N1.3 million.
Friday, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in January 2026 at Iyana Emirin Area, Odo Ado in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant stole solar power pack,15 laboratory report stands and two tripod stands, one bundle of long span roofing sheets, two central processing unit, five keyboards, four monitors and two standing fans.
Apata said other items stolen are one plasma TV, one generator, one public address system, one wireless microphone, 49 plastic chairs and two iron windows all alued at N1.3 million, belonging to Theresa Secondary School, Iyana Emirin, Odo Ado in Ado-Ekiti.
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The defence counsel, Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, promising that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Taiwo Ajibade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ms Ajibade said one of the sureties must produce three years tax clearance or passport.
She adjourned the case until June 10 for hearing.
