Man, 47, pleads guilty to N400,000 land fraud

A 47-year-old man, Sakiru Lawal, on Wednesday pleaded guilty before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, to defrauding a prospective landowner of N400,000.
Lawal, whose address was not provided, was charged with obtaining money under false pretence and stealing, to which he pleaded guilty.
The Magistrate, Kausarat Ayofe, remanded him in the Agodi Correctional Facility until November 13 for a review of the facts.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Corporal David Adepoju, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 5 at Sola Village, Ibadan.
He said the defendant obtained the sum of N400,000 from one Henry Ogbechi under the pretext of selling him a plot of land but failed to do so.
Mr Adepoju added that the defendant converted the money to his personal use.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
