A 23-year-old man, Kazeem Ridwan, was on Thursday charged before a Grade A Customary Court at Mapo in Ibadan for allegedly stealing a Samsung smartphone and home appliances valued at N740,000.

Mr Ridwan is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 8, at the Asi-Bodija area of Ibadan.

He alleged that he conspired with others now at large to break into the home of one Alabi Fayemi to steal.

The prosecution alleged that the defendant stole a Samsung smartphone valued at N400,000, a gas cooker valued at N180,000 and a deep freezer valued at N160,000.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.

The court president, O.E. Owoseni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Mr Owoseni added that the sureties must be blood relations of the defendant and must show evidence of an Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) verification receipt.

The court adjourned the case until January 15, 2026, for trial.
