Man arraigned over alleged theft of cables worth N50 million

The defendant is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The police have dragged a 19-year-old man, Habeeb Waheed before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stealing copper cables and wires belonging to a company.

The defendant is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP. Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in July 2025, at the Alaba International Market.

He alleged that the defendant conspired with others, now at large, to steal copper cables and wires belonging to C Divine Answer International Company in Alaba International Market.

According to the prosecutor, the stolen goods are worth N50 million.

He said that the defendant was eventually arrested following police investigations.

He said the offence contravenes the provisions of section 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The Magistrate, Lateef Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of one million naira, with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case untill April 1, for mention.
