Man arrested for attempted rape, impersonation in Bauchi
The Bauchi State police command has arrested Hamed Sale, a 22-year-old man for alleged impersonation, criminal trespass, attempted rape and theft at Malikiyya College of Health in the Old GRA area of the state.
Nafiu Habib, the command’s spokesman, said in a statement that the incident was reported on Friday at about 6:30 a.m through a distress call from the college.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that at about 2:30 a.m. on the same day, the suspect who claimed to be attached to Garu Security Service, Bauchi, unlawfully gained entry into a female students’ lodge in Old GRA, Bauchi, while dressed in a full police camouflage uniform.
Mr Habib said that upon receipt of the report, the divisional police officer of “B” Division led a team of detectives and patrol operatives to the scene.
“The suspect was promptly arrested at the lodge and the police camouflage uniform worn by him was recovered as an exhibit,” he said.
He added that the suspect was thereafter taken to the station for further interrogation.
“During the investigation, additional information was received linking the suspect to a series of theft cases reported within the hostel area,” he said.
Mr Habib said the suspect had been taken into custody, adding that the case was under discreet investigation.
He added that upon conclusion of the investigation, the suspect would be charged accordingly.
