Man arrested for reckless driving that killed 10-year-old, injured sister

A 43-year-old businessman, Kazeem Olatunji, who allegedly drove in a reckless manner and caused the death of a 10-year-old girl on Tuesday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The police charged Mr Olatunji with dangerous and reckless driving, causing grievous harm and causing death.
The prosecution counsel, Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 7 at Alakuko, Lagos State.
He said that the defendant drove a Honda Jeep CRV with registration number KTU 947BJ in a reckless manner and caused the death of a 10-year-old girl.
The victim, he said, died on the spot while her eight-year-old sister sustained severe injuries.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 51, 19 and 28 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, 2018.
Mr Olatunji pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate O.A Layinka admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of one million naira with two sureties in like sum.
Mr Layinka adjourned the case until October 6 for the continuation of trial.
