Man City beat Liverpool 2-1 in dramatic win at Anfield to close gap with Arsenal

Manchester City dazzled at the Anfield Stadium as the Pep Guardiola’s side came back from one-goal down to secure a dramatic 2-1 over Liverpool on Sunday.
It was a crucial victory for City in the battle for the title as the Cityzens reduced the gap adrift of league leaders Arsenal, which thrashed Sunderland 3-0 on Saturday, to six points.
Several missed opportunities from both sides meant the match remained goalless until the 74th minute when Dominik Szoboszlai scored one of the best goals this season to break the deadlock for the visitors.
The Hungary international’s direct free kick from yards out ricocheted against the goalpost into the net to give Liverpool the lead.
However, City equalised 10 minutes later through Bernardo Silva who stretched to put a header by Erling Haaland into the net.
The drama began in added time when City were awarded a penalty after Alisson Becker brought down Matheus Nunes, with Haaland calmly converting the kick to put the visitors ahead.
Moments later, City scored again from a counter-attack after Becker left his goalpost for a Liverpool corner kick, allowing Haaland to put the ball into an open net.
The referee eventually ruled out the goal for a free kick, with Szoboszlai also shown a red card due the Liverpool player pulling Haaland’s shirt to prevent him from scoring before forward reciprocated the act to prevent Szoboszlai from clearing the ball off the line.
The result dealt a huge blow to Liverpool’s push for Champions League football next season as the Reds failed to close the gap to Manchester United and Chelsea, who are fourth and fifth on the table respectively.
