Romanian police said on Wednesday a man was killed after crashing his car into a fence outside Russia’s embassy in Bucharest.

Although the circumstances of the incident were not immediately known, the Russian ambassador, Valery Kuzmin, claimed the embassy received repeated emails threatening to “blow up’’ or “retaliate.”

However, he did not provide proof.

It was also unclear whether the incident was connected to the Russian war in Ukraine.

Mr Kuzmin told state broadcaster Rossiya-24 that Russia considered the incident a terrorist attack.

However, Mr Kuzmin admitted that the circumstances were still unclear.

Police and the public prosecutor’s office had started an investigation.
