Man drags ex-fiancée to court over alleged unreturned wedding gifts

A man, Abubakar Lukman, on Tuesday dragged his fiancée, Fatima Muhammad, before a Shari’a Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, seeking the return of wedding “gift” items to her family.
“Both our parents were involved in the preparations for the wedding. But I later discovered my wife to have some habits that I can not condone in a wife. I decided to call off the wedding,” he said.
He asked the court to order the defendant to return foodstuffs, an electric kettle, gas cylinder, a floor rug, sweets, buckets, and dates given during the marriage introduction.
The defendant’s counsel, Sani Sanusi, denied the allegation, saying the items had been returned to the complainant.
The presiding Judge, Yakubu Abdullahi, adjourned the matter until September 25 for Lukman to present witnesses or evidence to prove the items were not returned.
