Man in court for allegedly punching friend

A 26-year-old man, Yusuf Abdullahi, appeared before a Kano Sharia Court on Tuesday for allegedly punching his friend, Aminu Umar, in the face, causing him to lose a tooth.
The defendant, who lives at Fagge Quarters, Kano, is facing charges of assault causing grievous hurt and has pleaded guilty to the offences.
The prosecutor, Inspector Abdul Wada, told the court that Mr Umar, who resides at the same address as the defendant, reported the matter at Mandawari Police Station on May 9.
Mr Wada said that the complaint informed the police that at 6:00 p.m. on the day, he had a disagreement with the defendant, which resulted in the latter allegedly giving him several blows to the head and body.
“Umar said that the assault caused him injuries by removing one of his teeth and he was admitted to the hospital for medical attention,” the prosecutor said.
Mr Wada said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 158, 159 and 165 of the Penal Code Law of Kano State.
The judge, Umar Lawal-Abubakar, ordered the remand of the defendant in a correctional centre until the next adjourned date.
Mr Lawal-Abubakar adjourned the matter until May 30 for hearing.
