Man in court over alleged theft of iPhone XR, breach of peace

A 29-year-old man, Olaiya Abiodun, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing iPhone XR649b valued at N200,000 and for breach of peace.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing trial on two-count of stealing and breach of peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adejare, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in July 2024, at Fayose Market, in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant stole an iPhone XR649b valued N200, 000, property of one Morakinyo Opeyemi.
Mr Ayodele alleged that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by causing nuisance in a public place.
According to him, the offences contravene Section 302 and 181(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The counsel to the defendant, Tope Salami, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Kehinde Awosika, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until June 4, for hearing.
