Maritime reporters hail Adeniyi’s confirmation as customs CG

The Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has hailed the federal government over the confirmation of Adewale Adeniyi as the substantive Comptroller General of Customs (CGC).
In a statement on Sunday, the association’s president, Godfrey Bivbere, described the development as a welcomed step which had allayed the worries of stakeholders in the industry.
According to Mr Bivbere, President Bola Tinubu has demonstrated that excellence will always be rewarded through the confirmation.
“This confirmation will go a step further to re-energise the CGC to deliver on its mandate of facilitating trade and building a virile customs service that can be at par with global standards.
“We have no doubt that the CGC will be buoyed by this confirmation to do more than he has been doing since he was first appointed in an acting capacity,” he said.
Mr Tinubu had, on June 19, announced Mr Adeniyi as the acting CG of customs to wide acclaim.
On October 20, in a statement, Willie Bassey, director of information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, announced the confirmation.
According to the statement, the president urged Mr Adeniyi to bring his wealth of experience to bear on his new assignment.
The appointment takes effect from October 19, and his tenure is in accordance with the extant provisions of the Public Service Rules (PSR).
