May Day: Delta, Nasarawa speakers hail workers’ dedication

The speakers, Nasarawa and Delta states assemblies, Danladi Jatau and Dennis Guwor, respectively lauded the resilience and education of the Nigerian workers.
Jatau spoke in a statement by his press secretary, Jibrin Gwamna, in commemoration of the 2024 Workers Day celebration on Wednesday in Lafia.
Mr Jatau, who identified with the workers on their special day, described the workforce as the engine room of government, critical for effective governance.
He assured that the 7th Assembly under his watch would continue to provide all the needed support to further better the lots of the state civil servants at all times.
He acknowledged the contributions of civil servants to the success of the current administration in the state.
The statement quoted the speaker as describing the worker as hardworking, understanding and patriotic citizens while congratulating them on the unique day.
Mr Jatau also commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for prioritising workers’ welfare, training, prompt payment of salaries, pension and gratuities for retirees and the recent employment of casual workers in the state into the mainstream of civil service, among others.
He called for a sustained working relationship between the labour unions and government for smooth administration in the state.
Mr Jatau urged workers to continue to work as a team and contribute positively to the development of the state.
The speaker added that the state assembly would continue to strive for their enhanced well-being at all times.
On his part, Guwor, described the labour unions and the entire Nigerian workforce as worthy partners in good governance and the nation’s development.
The speaker, in a statement by his chief press secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, on Wednesday in Asaba, also commended the state workers for their commitment to the growth of Delta.
“The labour unions and their members have been worthy partners in good governance and the development of the state. I appreciate Delta workers for their commitment and resilience in advancing the fortunes of the state. I commend them for their unwavering dedication to the state’s progress and prosperity. I cannot help but appreciate them for their commitment and steadfastness to the government’s drive for a greater state,” he said.
Mr Guwor, who is also the national treasurer, Conference of Speakers of States Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, enjoined the workers never to lose focus but to keep faith with the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration.
He noted the determination of the present administration to grow all sectors of the state economy, including areas that promote the welfare and well-being of workers.
“As we celebrate with the workers today, I seek from them continuous and genuine support for the state government.
“I enjoin them to keep on with the productive spirit of growth of the state,” he said.
The speaker assured that the assembly would continue to legislate on issues that would encourage and enhance peace and progress in the state.
Workers’ Day, which is held annually on May 1, is a holiday celebrated in many countries in honour of workers.
The federal government had declared Wednesday a public holiday in the country in commemoration of Workers’ Day.
