A 29-year-old mechanic, Okwudili John, appeared on Thursday before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a car worth N7 million.

John, who resides on Lawanson Street, Ojuelegba, faces a three-count charge of stealing, conspiracy, and obtaining under false pretences.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the offences occurred in April 2021 at Ogudu.

Mr Bassey said John stole a 2021 Ford Edge, valued at N7 million, belonging to Eloka Akweaze.

He claimed John received the vehicle for repairs, along with N240,000 to purchase a tokunbo engine.

Since then, the defendant and his associates allegedly failed to return the car or disclose its whereabouts.

The prosecutor said the defendant acted in a manner likely to breach public peace.

Mr Bassey added that the offences contravene Sections 280, 314, and 411 of Lagos State’s Criminal Laws, 2015.

Magistrate O.A. Daodu granted bail of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until July 1 for trial.
