Mechanic bags six years’ imprisonment for stealing

A magistrates’ court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced a 26-year-old mechanic, Daniel David, to a term of six years at the correctional centre for housebreaking and stealing electrical equipment.
The magistrate, Irene Pati, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to three counts of housebreaking, mischief, and stealing.
The court sentenced the convict to a term of two years’ imprisonment for the offence of housebreaking, with an option to pay a fine of N50,000.
The court also sentenced the convict to a term of one year’s imprisonment for mischief, or a fine of N25,000, and a term of three years’ imprisonment for stealing, or an option of a N50,000 fine.
The court held that all terms of imprisonment shall run concurrently.
Meanwhile, the court ordered the convict to pay N368,480 in compensation.
In the charge, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on December 30, 2025, at the A Police Division by a complainant, John Dalong.
He said that the convict broke into the complainant’s house and damaged some items worth N190,000 and also stole some items, including an eight-way distribution box, 14 pieces of single sockets, 13 pieces of one-gang switch, 10 pieces of lamp holders, two rolls of black and red wires and four sliding windows, all valued at N368,840.
The offence contravenes the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code Law.
