The Global Migration Research Institute has commended the automation of the passport registration process in the country, describing it as a significant advancement in Nigeria’s security and migration framework.

Williams Ijoma, president of the institute, said this during a media parley on Thursday in Abuja.

According to him, the development will enable timely identification of fraudulent passport applicants through the smart document verification systems installed at entry points nationwide.

Mr Ijoma stated, “We are all witnesses to the rigorous, energy-sapping and frustration experienced in the old process; some Nigerians in the Diaspora have been victims of the slow and corruption-induced system of the old ways.”

He added that the new initiative “is worth celebrating and commendable” and urged Nigerians to support it.
