Simon Mwadkwon, the senator representing Plateau North Mwadkwon, on Wednesday, challenged ministerial nominee Dele Alake for calling Peter Obi’s supporters “wild dogs.”

Mr Mwadkwon, at the screening of ministerial nominees on Wednesday, confronted Mr Alake for labelling Mr Obi’s supporters as “wild dogs.”

“I read a statement where you labelled supporters of a particular presidential candidate as ‘wild dogs’,” said Mr Mwadkwon. “Have you come across that statement? Are you aware of it? Did you say that?” 

But Senate President Godwills Akpabio quickly blocked Mr Alake, his party man, from responding to the questions, saying politics is over.

Mr Obi’s supporters are called Obidients, a name coined from Mr Obi’s surname. 

In an article shortly after the elections in April, Mr Alake berated Mr Obi’s supporters, describing them as “intolerant, arrogant, abusive, toxic and insulting.”

“Anyone who has dared express any view critical of or opposed to that of Mr Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, is immediately set upon by the unwieldy column of wild dogs who have labelled themselves ’Obidients’ and constitute a lawless mob baying for blood on social media!” Mr Alake said.

Mr Alake’s remark was one of many controversial statements from Mr Tinubu’s camp after the elections despite the State Security Service warning political actors against inciting and inflammatory statements.
