President Bola Tinubu will declare an international conference on security and national unity open on Tuesday.

Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of the conference, Garbadeen Mohammad, made the disclosure in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

The conference, with the theme, “International Conference On Security For Sustainable Socio-economic Development,” is organised by Jama’atu Izalatil Bidiah wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS Nigeria) in collaboration with the Muslim World League, Saudi Arabia.

Mr Mohammad said that the conference would examine global security within the context of Nigeria’s national security challenges.

He said, “This will be done with a view to x-raying the incidents of banditry, kidnapping and related issues which currently constitute threat to Nigeria’s national security.”

The committee chairman said the two-day conference, slated for for Tuesday and Wednesday, would also deliberate on the issues of Muslim unity, diversity and peaceful co-existence among people, regardless of ethnic or religious differences.

According to him, this will be followed by a national preaching session at the JIBWIS headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday evening, which will continue through the night.

He stated, “Participants are expected to depart for their respective destinations on Thursday. The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, will serve as the Royal Father of the Day.

“State governors, ministers, members of the national and state assemblies, Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, diplomats, captains of industry, the Muslim Ummah from Nigeria and beyond and the general public, are also expected to attend.”

Mr Mohammad also said that the conference was designed to foster dialogue, strengthen partnerships and develop sustainable approaches to addressing emerging security challenges while advancing socio-economic development.

According to him, the partnership between JIBWIS Nigeria and the Muslim World League reflects a shared commitment to promoting diversity, social harmony, cooperation among communities and peaceful coexistence.

He said that the conference would also feature high-level plenary sessions focused on national security and socio-economic development within a broader global context.

“Other sessions will focus on diversity and inclusive coexistence, while expert panels will examine ways of countering terrorism, armed banditry, and strengthening community resilience.

“The programme will also include global partnership roundtables aimed at advancing sustainable socio-economic development. The gathering will provide a platform for participants to exchange ideas and strengthen partnerships towards achieving peace, stability and sustainable development,” he said
