Muslim associations have been urged to create more marriage counselling centres across Nigeria.

Fatima Bakari made the call on Sunday while presenting a lecture at the maiden edition of the Women’s Week of the Nasrul-Lahi-Fathi Society (NASFAT), Doka branch, Kaduna.

Ms Bakari was the guest lecturer at the event.

She said creating more marriage counselling centres would help guide Muslim couples to have long-lasting marital relationships.

Ms Bakari advised couples to focus more on worshipping Allah during their first two years in marriage, adding, “Allah says remember me, and I will remember you.”

According to her, such prayers should focus on seeking Allah’s guidance for mutual love, trust and understanding.

Ms Bakari further explained that the essence of marriage should be love and seeking God’s blessings.

Ms Bakari also advised married and intending couples to always bridge communication gaps and establish good memories of what they should be remembered for.

She, however, lamented how social media is taking over lives, urging couples always to “fear Allah as it strengthens homes.”

In his address, the chairman of the occasion, Isiaku Yusuf, commended the women’s wing for organising the event.

Mr Yusuf urged the members to remain committed to serving Allah, which should be reflected in their deeds.

Basirat Seidu, the women’s affairs secretary, called the members to reflect on the lessons learnt during the week.

She also advised couples to live according to the Islamic injunctions, adding, “When selecting life partners, focus should be on love as well as the fear of Allah and not ethnicity.”
