Mustapha Abdullahi defeats Oyedeji, others to emerge NBBF president
The Nigeria Basketball Federation on Thursday elected Mustapha Abdullahi as president to succeed outgoing Musa Kida, for a four-year tenure.
Mr Abdullahi was elected during the NBBF’s elective Congress held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Mr Abdullahi secured 40 of 48 votes cast to defeat a former D’Tigers captain, Olumide Oyedeji who polled the remaing eight votes, and former international Ejike Ugboaja who didn’t secure any vote.
Another contender, Igoche Mark, withdrew from the race, over concerns relating to fairness and credibility of the electoral process.
Meanwhile, the sole candidate for the NBBF vice-presidential position, Ugo Udezue, emerged unopposed.
Mr Abdullahi who is the incumbent director-general of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, has a doctorate in mechanical engineering, specialising in renewable energy.
He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Manchester.
