NAPTIP receives 48 victims of human trafficking from police, immigration
Nigeria Immigration Service has handed over about 21 suspected victims of human trafficking to the Kano Zonal Office of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP), rescued at the Kongolom border in Katsina state.
The Zonal Coordinator of the agency in Kano, Abdullahi Babale, revealed this in an interview on Monday, saying that the victims were rescued on Sunday, 27 February, 2022.
Amongst the 21 victims that were rescued, the coordinator explained, were 13 females and 8 males, according to Mr Babale.
He said that another set of 27 victims were also rescued at the same kongolam border and handed over to NAPTIP by the Nigerien Police on Monday, February 28, 2022.
According to him, “the rescued victims, 15 females and 12 men, were on their way to Libya, Tunisia and Europe.”
NAPTIP has started an indepth investigation over the two incidents and would prosecute the traffickers shortly, an official indicated.
