Nasarawa State House of Assembly has reiterated its readiness to partner health agencies to tackle quackery in the sector.

The chairman of the House Committee on Health, Larry Ven-Bawa, stated this when the management of the health ministry appeared before the committee for their 2025  budget assessment for the first quarter on Wednesday in Lafia.

He said the quacks’ activities had negatively affected the lives of the people in Nasarawa.

Mr Ven-Bawa urged the ministry to expedite action on ceding Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Lafia structures to the federal government for use as a federal teaching hospital.

The committee also directed the immediate relocation of DASH to Akwanga LGA for full operation.

He urged the ministry to establish more tertiary and secondary facilities across senatorial zones.

The health commissioner, Gaza Gwamna, said the ministry was working hard to cede DASH facilities to the federal government successfully.

Mr Gwamna informed the committee that the ministry was also working to identify quack doctors and illegal health facilities in the state to get rid of them.

Also appearing before the committee was the management of Nasarawa State Health Insurance Scheme, led by the executive director, Yahaya Bawa and the management of Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, led by Usman Iskilu.

The committees commended the agencies for the good work and promised to give them all the necessary support to succeed in their responsibilities of ensuring quality health care services.

In their responses, Messrs Bawa and Iskilu thanked the committee’s support and pledged to continue prioritising the health needs of the people.
