Nasarawa assembly passes judiciary financial autonomy bill

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Monday unanimously passed a bill granting financial autonomy to the state judiciary.
The “Bill for a Law to Repeal and Re-Enact the Nasarawa State Judiciary Financial Management Law and Other Matters Connected Therewith,” was passed during the assembly proceedings in the state capital Lafia.
Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, said the bill if assented to by Governor Abdullahi Sule, would ensure the financial autonomy of the state judicial arm of government.
After the bill was passed, the Speaker commended other lawmakers and directed the clerk of the House to produce a clean copy for the governor’s assent.
“May I request the Clerk to produce a clean copy of the bill for the purpose of vetting before transmitting it to the governor for assent,” he said.
Earlier the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Daniel Ogazi, had moved for the bill to scale to third reading and was seconded by the Minority Leader, Abel Bala.
