The speaker of the Nasarawa House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, has urged Eggon people and other residents to promote the habit of communicating with children in their respective dialects.

“We need to make that a habit to ensure that the dialects do not go extinct,” Mr Jatau said on Thursday at a New Year Cultural Celebration organised by the Eggon Cultural and Development Association in Lafia.

He urged the Eggon people and other residents to embrace their culture and urged parents to speak their dialects with their children.

“Let’s speak our dialects with our children. If not, one day, our tribes and culture will go into extinction,” he said.

Mr Jatau emphasised the significance of the mother tongue for the upcoming generation, hence the need to always teach children their native languages and keep their culture alive.

He also called on the people, irrespective of their differences, to continue to pray and support Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration to succeed.

According to Mr Jatau, the governor has done well and is still doing his best, hence the need for residents to support him to succeed.

“Let’s support Sule to succeed in order to enjoy more dividends of democracy,” he stated.

The speaker also urged the Eggon people to work in unity and synergy with other tribes for the overall development of Nasarawa and the country.

“We should remain united and synergise with other tribes. We cannot make it alone.

“And we must make sure we live in peace with other tribes and religions as God did not make a mistake to create many ethnic groups and religions in the society,” he said.
