NAWOJ urges women to pay attention to health

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has charged women on the need to embark on regular medical checkups for healthy living.
Tola Gbadomosi, acting chairperson of the Association in Ondo, gave the charge at a sensitisation programme on ‘Women Health’, held in Akure, on Friday.
“Women should create time to cater for their health and particularly when they are ageing, to have enough strength to meet the challenges ahead of them and sustain their homes,” Mrs Gbadamosi said at the event attended by different Women groups and Associations.
She explained that women needed to rest and create time for themselves to avoid both physical, emotional, and psychological stress which could cause blood pressure.
“So, let us chill out once a while like our men to burn out this stress to avoid any issue relating to blood pressure.”
Adebunmi Osadahun, the Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, underscored the place of women both in the family and society.
Mrs Osadahun reminded the women that the slogan of ‘No Woman No Nation’, is no longer in vogue, stressing that they should see themselves as mothers of “generation” while they grow in age.
“So, ageing in women is not a disease but a natural phenomenon which is bound to happen to every woman,” she added.
The Commissioner, however, urged the leadership of the women journalists to always ensure they invite men to their programmes, so they could learn and understand the need to prioritise their wife’s health.
State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Leke Adegbite, said the programme would assist women to know their place and benefits in a society that is particularly dominated by men.
While applauding the organisers of the programme, Mr Adegbite noted that women would continue to be accorded their rights, especially in the journalism profession.
Speaking earlier, a resource person for the programme, Temidayo Falade, said there’s a need to always create awareness and importance of healthy living among women, particularly those who are facing marital challenges.
Mrs Falade explained that many of the women are already passing through “depression”, describing the challenge as mental health that needed proper counselling to overcome.
“So, creating awareness remains the first solution to overcome this type of challenge,” she noted.
Also, Oluyomi Daniels, the National Sales Manager of Sam Pharmaceutical Limited advised women to eat good foods regularly.
Mr Daniels who spoke on Peptic Ulcer said the disease can be tackled by reversing the causative agents among which he mentioned stomach Acid and the use of Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory and drug NSAID among others.
He also tasked women above the age of 45 years not to rush out of bed in the early morning, adding that “they should sit up on bed first before getting out of bed.”
Peoples Gazette reports that the sensitisation programme was attended by representatives of women groups and associations including from the NSCDC and Nigeria Police.
