The Nigerian Defence Academy has begun a five-day shooting exercise in Kaduna for cadets, urging residents around the Afaka Range to avoid the stipulated areas for safety.

The academy’s public relations officer, Reuben Kovangiya, said in a statement on Monday that the exercise would run from July 20 to 24, between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily at the NDA Open Range, Afaka, Kaduna.

He said the exercise was part of the academy’s routine training programme for cadets.

Mr Kovangiya urged residents of Mando, Tsamiya, Kauya, and other communities around the Afaka area, as well as the general public, to avoid trespassing or approaching the shooting range during the exercise.

According to him, the academy has implemented all necessary safety measures to ensure the training is conducted safely and successfully.

He appealed to media organisations and community stakeholders to help disseminate the information widely to enhance public awareness and safety.
Kovangiya also appreciated the continued cooperation and understanding of members of the public and conveyed assurances from the commandant of the NDA, Oluyemi Olatoye.
