NDLEA recovers 1.4kg of cannabis in Yobe, detains two suspects

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a female suspect for allegedly being in possession of 39 parcels of cannabis in Damaturu, Yobe.
Bello Wakirwa, the agency’s spokesman, said in a statement on Monday that operatives detained the suspect (name withheld) on September 27, during a routine stop-and-search operation on the Damaturu–Maiduguri Highway.
“The recovered drug is a highly potent synthetic strain of cannabis weighing 1.4 kilogrammes.
“The illicit substance was carefully concealed inside the casing of her travelling bag in an attempt to evade detection,” he said.
He said a swift follow-up operation by operatives of the agency led to the arrest of a second female suspect (name withheld) in connection with the crime.
“She was apprehended at her residence on Baga Road, Maiduguri, and is currently assisting investigators with further inquiries,” Mr Wakirwa said.
He said the agency would leave no stone unturned to rid the state of illicit drug peddling.
