NEDC secures employment for 60 youths trained on electrical skills
The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has secured employment for 60 youths it sponsored for training as electrical technicians and linesmen.
Mohammed Alkali, the commission’s managing director, disclosed this at the youths’ graduation ceremony on Saturday in Maiduguri.
The trained youths were presented with their employment letters at the event by the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), responsible for supplying electricity to Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, and Taraba states.
Mr Alkali said the youths, drawn from the six North-East states, were beneficiaries of a memorandum of understanding signed between the commission and the Mainstream Energy Solution Ltd, who acquired the YEDC.
The MD reiterated the commitment of NEDC to its mandates, including the empowerment of youths and the provision of jobs, and urged them to continue to avail themselves of opportunities in various fields provided by the commission.
In his speech, the executive director of corporate services of Mainstream Ltd, Usman Mohammed, said the company would continue to collaborate with NEDC to create more opportunities for the people of the North-East.
In his remarks, the managing director of YEDC, Abdulrahman Isa, said the development would go a long way in boosting the manpower challenge facing the company.
Mr Isa tasked the youths on integrity, hardship and commitment to duty, stressing that the company had zero tolerance for corruption and extortion.
Some youths who spoke at the event, including Mohammed Yerima from Borno, Ali Modu from Yobe and Habibu Kassim from Bauchi, thanked the federal government for establishing the commission and commended the positive roles it has been playing in the region.
