Neto, Fernandes pay emotional tribute to Diogo Jota, brother
The duo of Portuguese right winger, Pedro Neto and Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez held a Chelsea shirt bearing the names of Diogo Jota and brother, André Silva, who both died in a motor accident in the early hours of Thursday in Spain.
This happened during the pre-match formalities heralding the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final fixture between Palmeiras and Chelsea.
The football world was thrown into mourning when the news of the death of the duo broke.
Volunteers at the tournament also observed a minute silence before they commenced activities to herald the quarter final game.
Jota, 11 days ago, exchanged vows with his long-term, 28-year-old partner, Rute Cardoso.
He won the Premier League with Liverpool and the Nations League champion with Portugal.
Jota was returning to Liverpool for pre-season training by car and ferry due to recent minor surgery that advised against flying.
