Two people died on Monday in a crash involving a motorcycle and a Dongfeng pickup truck at Koto-Ajala, inbound Owode, in Obafemi Owode council area of Ogun.

The spokesman for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the crash in a statement.

Mr Akinbiyi said the incident occurred at about 10:32 a.m., involving a motorcycle with registration number FFF 689 HA and a Dongfeng Pickup truck with registration number GGE 200 KP.

According to Akinbiyi, eyewitnesses said the crash was caused by the motorcyclist’s excessive speed and loss of control while descending the Koto-Ajala axis.

“The motorcycle reportedly veered into the opposite lane and rammed into the oncoming Dongfeng pickup,” he said.

Mr Akinbiyi said two persons, a male and a female, died on the spot. He added that officials of TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps and other emergency responders participated in the rescue operation.

The TRACE spokesman said the bodies of the deceased had been evacuated by FRSC to Fakoya Hospital Morgue in Sagamu.

He added that the vehicles had been taken to the Papa Oscar yard for further investigation.

Mr Akinbiyi added that normal traffic had been restored along the route after the crash scene was cleared.
