NHRC receives 176 rights violation complaints in Kano
The National Human Rights Commission in Kano said it received 179 complaints of alleged human rights abuses in April and May.
The NHRC coordinator in the state, Shehu Abdullahi, made this known on Wednesday in Kano. He said that 139 of the cases had been treated, while 40 are pending.
Mr Abdullahi said 126 cases bordered on children’s rights, women and gender.
According to him, 28 of the cases received during the period under review are on abandonment of family responsibility and domestic violence.
“The remaining 25 cases are on economic and cultural rights, labour and physical violence rights,” he said.
He further explained that the commission also mediated on marital matters between couples.
Mr Abdullahi urged couples to be more patient with one another to manage their responsibilities.
