NiDCOM warns ‘desperate diasporans’ against appointing shadow ministers
Abike Dabiri-Erewa has warned Nigerians in the diaspora against falling victim to desperate diasporans seeking to remain politically relevant.
Chairman of Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Ms Dabiri-Erewa on Monday warned diasporans thinking of floating the ‘Diaspora Shadow Ministers” (DSM) to desist.
“NiDCOM, therefore, warns members of the Nigerians in Diaspora community to beware of being used by anyone seeking every desperate move to be relevant politically in the Diaspora community and in Nigeria,” Ms Dabiri-Erewa said in a statement on Monday.
In the statement, the NiDCOM boss said “The Nigerian democratic space and practice does not recognise shadow cabinet in the Nigerian Constitution.”
The statement said the “DSM” was the idea of Kenneth Gbandi, former Chairman, NIDO Europe, and a member of the “African Democratic Process” party.
Ms Dabiri-Erewa said DSM was “being deployed by Mr Gbandi to further his objectives,” and wondered if “he is forming a parallel government abroad.”
According to Ms Dabiri-Erewa, “We in Nigeria only recognise the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari, of the All Progressive Congress Party (APC) government who was duly elected at the last Presidential Elections in 2019.
