The police command in Niger says it has deployed over 500 operatives for a hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

The deployment was announced in a statement on Tuesday.

According to him, the police commissioner, Adamu Elleman, directed HODs, ACs, tactical commanders, the intelligence unit, and DPOs to deploy officers for intelligence-led policing and raids on blackspots within their areas of responsibility.

Mr Elleman added that the deployment was occasioned by the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebration to ensure a seamless and peaceful celebration.

Mr Elleman further directed officers to mobilise operational assets, including anti-riot water cannons, gun trucks, and patrol vehicles, and to ensure a massive deployment of police officers for visibility policing and a show of force alongside other security agencies.

“This is to enable them to dominate public space for a tight security arrangement before, during and after the festivity,” he said.

Mr Elleman also directed tactical commanders to ensure sufficient deployment of tactical teams, including the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal. Others are the Chemical, Biological, Radiological/Nuclear, Tactical Support Team, Monitoring Unit, Crack Squad, Anti-Thuggery Unit, and Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command, which cover all major Eid grounds and other strategic public places for security.

Mr Elleman urged the public to contact the command via 07031964389, 080753916010, or 08032233454 for complaints, observations, or in case of any emergency.
