Niger Assembly invites CP, NSCDC commandant over lingering insecurity

The Niger State House of Assembly has invited the Commissioner of Police and the commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over the lingering security challenges in the state.
The invitation followed a joint motion by Mohammed Abubakar (APC-Chanchaga) and Andrew Doma (PDP-Shiroro) at plenary on Tuesday.
In his presentation, Mr Abubakar condemned the recent robbery activity at the Emir of Minna, Faruk Bahago’s palace.
He also urged the assembly to invite the two security chiefs in the state to its next executive session.
”Mr Speaker, there is the need to invite the commissioner of Police and the commandant of NSCDC to our next executive session to brief us on the security situation in the state,” he said.
On his part, Mr Doma called on the executive arm of government to reposition the security architecture in the state.
He further advised government and security agencies to develop new strategies for tackling the recurrent attacks by suspected bandits around Shiroro, Munya and Rafi axis.
Afiniki Dauda, the assembly’s deputy speaker, directed that the duo be invited to appear before the house to explain steps taken to apprehend those behind the robbery activity at the palace of the Emir of Minna.
Mr Dauda, who presided over the plenary, explained that the invitation would enable the security chiefs to tell the lawmakers measures put in place to secure lives and property in the state adequately.
