Niger govt. rolls out 5-day programme for governor’s inauguration

The Niger state government has released a five-day programme of events for the inauguration of governor-elect, Mr Umar Bago, and his deputy, Mr Yakubu Garba into the office.

This is contained in a statement issued by Alhaji Ahmed Matane, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) on Tuesday in Minna.

Mr Matane said that the events would hold between May 24 to May 29 with the exception of May 27, which is Children’s Day.

He explained that the programme would commence with Valedictory State Executive Council Meeting on May 24, at 11:00 am and would be followed by Inaugural Lecture on May 25, by 10:00 am.

He said the handover of transition documents would also hold on May 25, at 2:00 pm at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre and Council Chamber, Government House respectively.

He said special Jumma’at prayers would hold on May 26, at 2:00 pm at Central Mosque, Minna while Special Church Service would take place at ECWA Goodnews Church behind Kure Market on May 28.

Mr Matane added that there would be Special Polo Tournament at the Minna Polo Ground by 4:00 pm and Pre-inauguration Dinner to hold at Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi Centre by 7:00 pm also on May 28.

According to the SSG, the inauguration parade/swearing-in ceremony of the governor-elect would take place at the International Trade Fair Complex, Minna, on May 29.

“There will be a post-inauguration luncheon by 2:00 pm at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi Centre,” he said.
