NIGERCEM: Gov Nwifuru sets up committee to reactivate cement company

Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has set up a 15-member committee to reactivate the premier cement company, NIGERCEM, Nkalagu, in the state.
Mr Nwifuru announced the names of the committee members at a public function in Abakaliki.
NIGERCEM was the first indigenous cement manufacturing company in the country.
The governor listed the committee members to include Catherine Ogbu, Adline Idike, Iduma Igariwey, Ben Odoh, Sunday Eze, and Chris Nwankwo.
Others are Ken Eze, Antony Ani, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, Elias Mbam, Sonni Ogbuoji, Roy Umahi, SAN, Obinna Ogba, Silvanus Ngiji-Ngele, and Ben Okah.
According to him, the committee should cooperate with the significant investors and shareholders to work out modalities for the immediate commencement of operations in the company, which had been moribund for decades.
He gave the committee two weeks to submit its report on the modalities to provide a solution to the problem.
“Restoring the company was part of my campaign promise when I visited the area. I assured that the factory will be revived within my first tenure in office,’’ Mr Nwifuru said.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to laying a solid foundation for the state and restoring its lost glory.
Mr Nwifuru further said the town hall meeting had been convened to engage stakeholders on the best approach to actualise the project.
He also used the medium to direct the ministry of the capital city to be more stringent in ensuring that developers comply with the master plan.
