Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, says Nigeria is completely destroyed as he resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the coalition-adopted African Democratic Congress (ADC) to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

“It’s not about changing the government, if it is about changing the government, there is no need of changing the government, it’s about changing Nigeria,” Mr Amaechi said. “Nigeria is completely destroyed. People can’t eat. People can’t buy food. There’s no money to buy food. Everything is gone,” Mr Amaechi said. 

Mr Amaechi made the announcement at the unveiling of the interim executive of the ADC in Abuja on Wednesday, adding that the coalition must not only act as a party but as a movement to bring Nigerians across all sectors together to take over the affairs of the country.

He noted that the country has been completely destroyed under the leadership of Mr Tinubu, accusing the APC of already wasting time planning to rig the 2027 election, while ignoring the inflation crisis that has prevented Nigerians from affording food to feed themselves and their families.

He added, “Inflation is at its peak and the federal government is busy going around trying to hijack the election. INEC is helping them to hijack the election,” adding that the ADC “must start not just a party, but a movement that brings in Nigerians to on their own take over the government, not us.”

Mr Amaechi joined other high-profile political figures, including former attorney general of the federation, Abubakar Malami, Senator David Mark, the newly elected interim national chairman of the ADC, who have dumped their parties to join the coalition against the ruling party.
