Nigeria defeat Senegal to reach fifth consecutive AfroBasket championship final

Nigeria’s D’Tigress are one game away from winning their fifth consecutive continental title after beating their Senegalese counterparts 75-68 to reach the final of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
The semifinal tie was a rematch of the 2024 championship final and turned out as a very close encounter that many had predicted going into the game, with the D’Tigress leaving it late to clinch another final berth.
Nigeria outscored Senegal 22-17 in the first quarter before securing another 21-20 win in the second quarter to take a six-point lead going into halftime.
The Senegalese found their rhythm after the break and dominated the third quarter 21-9, securing an eight-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
However, the D’Tigress launched an impressive comeback in the last quarter to win the clash by seven points.
The victory further solidified Nigeria’s dominance on the continent in recent years, and it has now gone ten years without a defeat in the AfroBasket Championship.
Meanwhile, Nigeria will face the winner of the second semifinal fixture between Mali and South Sudan in the final on Sunday.
