Nollywood actress Remi Surutu has declared support for President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying Nigeria would have been in a “big mess” without his leadership.

Surutu spoke on Saturday in Lagos at the launch of EKO57, a political support group formed to mobilise support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

“If this man had not been curbing a lot of things, Nigeria would have gone into a big mess by now,” she said.

The actress said that despite criticisms of the ruling party, she remained committed to campaigning for Mr Tinubu and voting for him again.

Surutu said that, even though she faced harsh criticism during the 2023 election for supporting Tinubu, she would not back out.

“They insulted me and said, a day to the election, that it was Asiwaju I was following who killed my child. But I care less,” Surutu said.

“When I met B Tinubu, our Baba, he was doing well. If you think he has not done well, bring a man from your family and let him govern for just one day.”

Responding to critics, Surutu added, “I don’t care, after today you guys are going to see me online and stop bashing me, you can’t do nothing because you don’t feed me.”

According to the actress, Tinubu’s wife and children are “extremely good” people who have been working tirelessly to help Nigeria.

“But the fact that we Yoruba don’t love ourselves, we condemn ourselves. But if we can for one day just look at what is happening all over the world, we are still enjoying ourselves,” she added.

The actress criticised some politicians she described as opportunists who switch sides for financial gain, saying some individuals claim loyalty to multiple parties depending on who is paying.

Surutu also addressed criticism of rising fuel prices, saying that people who argue the hike is caused by Tinubu don’t understand.

“The price of the fuel is decided by some beings, by the world leaders, but people don’t understand,” she said.

The EKO57 launch attracted supporters of the ruling APC, many of whom were seen in videos dancing with brooms, the party’s symbol, while singing songs praising Tinubu.
