The Association of Bursars of Nigerian Universities (ABNU) says it has sent some members to understudy Ghana’s universities’ revenue generation formula.

The association’s national chairman, Victor Imagbe, disclosed this in an interview with journalists on the sidelines of its ongoing Annual Conference and Award on Monday in Abuja.

“We have sent delegation to Ghana to understudy the revenue generation in their universities system. We need to collaborate to ensure that we have world-class universities. We have also been collaborating with universities outside the country,” he stated. “The conference will give all the bursars to understand how to access funds available at TETFUND and the reports they are supposed to be monitoring and proper management of the intervention of the funds that TETFUND is managing.”

Mr Imagbe, who is also the bursar at the University of Benin, said the move was part of the association’s efforts to upscale funding for Nigerian tertiary institutions in the face of dwindling statutory allocations.

He added that apart from seeking how to improve the revenue generation of the schools, the association had started aggressive orientation for its members on how to access intervention funds in TETFUND.

According to Mr Imagbe, the awards his association gave to both the Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, and the Executive Secretary of TETFUND, Suleiman Bogoro, were aimed at honouring them and served as a motivation for others.

Mr Imagbe further explained that the association would continue to ensure a peaceful environment.

“That is why we always have meetings with all the unions in schools to give them adequate information so that they will not hold the government to ransom,” he added.
