Nigerian court jails minor for stealing phone

A Jos Magistrate’ Court on Wednesday, sentenced a 17-year-old boy to nine months’ imprisonment for stealing a phone.
The magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos sentenced the minor, who pleaded guilty to theft.
The magistrate gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine.
She also ordered him to pay a compensation of N40,000.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported at the ‘B’ Division Police Station on March 29, by Friday Wilfred, the complainant.
Mr Gokwat said the convict went to the complainant’s hotel room and stole the phone and used it as a collateral to get a N20,000 loan.
The prosecutor said the offence contravene the Plateau Penal Code Law.
