Nigerian Legion commends appointment of new service chiefs

The Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Lagos State chapter, Akeem Wolimoh, on Friday described national security as a sensitive matter and commended the appointment of the new service chiefs.
Mr Wolimoh said during an interview in Lagos that whatever decisions the presidency made regarding security matters were in the best interest of the nation.
President Bola Tinubu, in a statement issued on Friday by one of his media aides, Sunday Dare, announced sweeping changes in the country’s military leadership.
According to the statement, Mr Tinubu said the move was part of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.
Mr Tinubu appointed Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing Gen. Christopher Musa.
He said, “The new Chief of Army Staff is Maj.-Gen. W. Shaibu, Air Vice Marshall S.K Aneke is Chief of Air Staff, while Rear Admiral I. Abbas is the new Chief of Naval Staff. Chief of Defence Intelligence Major-Gen. E.A.P Undiendeye retains his position.”
He added that Mr Tinubu had seasoned security advisers who would ensure to guide him towards making the best decisions for the interest of nation security.
“So, by all standards, the appointment of new service chiefs by the president to enhance security in the country is a good one,” the chairman said.
Mr Wolimoh welcomed the new service chiefs, stating that the people would be expecting renewed improvement in the security architecture of the country especially in the campaign against terrorism and banditry.
The chairman said that the veteran community thrived under the leadership of the late Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja and looked forward to maintaining such a robust relationship with the new service chiefs.
He wished the newly appointed service chiefs success in their assignments, noting that the task ahead was not an easy one.
However, he expressed confidence in their abilities as experienced senior military officers.
