The Jos Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a 24-year-old student, David Odiwe, for trespassing and stealing from a woman’s house.

The magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The magistrate gave him an option of a N50,000 fine or six months in prison and asked him to pay compensation of N300,000 or spend another 18 months in default.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on September 19 at the “B” Division police station by one Aisha Salish, the complainant.

Mr Gokwat said the convict trespassed into the house and stole a tab valued at N155,000, shoes worth N80,000, a phone valued at N80,000, and a wristwatch worth N20,000.

“During the police investigation, the wristwatch was recovered from him,” he said.

He said that the offence contravened the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
