Nigerian Theophilis Anwana jailed 20 years for rape in U.S.; faces deportation

A U.S.-based Nigerian, Theophilis Anwana, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after he was convicted of a second-degree rape amid the Donald Trump-led government raid on illegal immigrants and criminals in America.
Mr Anwana, 37, was arrested on August 28 by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Baltimore, ICE said in a post on X on Sunday.
“Theophilis Anwana, a 37-year-old sexual predator from Nigeria, on August 28,” ICE said. “He’s been convicted of second-degree rape in Bel Air, Maryland, and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.”
According to ICE, Mr Anwana has had a final order of removal since four years, since September 2021. Mr Anwana would be deported after serving his jail term in the U.S.
