Two security guards were arraigned before a magistrate’s court in Kaduna for stealing a company car worth N3.8 million.

The police charged Blessed Jimoh, 38 and Timothy Williams, 32, with criminal conspiracy and theft.

The prosecution counsel, Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on June 11 in Kaduna.

Mr Leo said that the defendants, who are security guards at M&D Trading Company, stole a Toyota Corolla worth N3.8 million belonging to their employer, Frank Cosmos.

He said the defendants were arrested while attempting to sell the car to a buyer.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 58 and 217 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017, which prescribe a three-year jail term and five years for stealing.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel admitted the defendants to bail of N500,000 each, with one surety in like sum.

The magistrate said the surety must be gainfully employed and must present evidence of tax payment to the Kaduna government.

He adjourned the case until July 6 for a hearing.
