Brother stabs sibling over plot of land, arrested for attempted murder

A magistrates’ Court in Kaduna on Wednesday ordered that a 26-year-old man, Samson Gandu, be remanded in prison custody for stabbing his older brother over a fight for a plot of land.
The police charged Mr Gandu with attempted culpable homicide. Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel did not take Mr Gandu’s plea for want of jurisdiction.
Mr Emmanuel ordered the police to return the case file to the Kaduna Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
He adjourned the case until June 30 for further mention.
The prosecution counsel, Chidi Leo, told the court that the case was reported by Janet Dogo at the Gabasawa Police Station in Kaduna on Sunday.
The prosecutor said the suspect stabbed his older brother, Mr Thomas, in the chest.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 200 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
Section 200 stipulates imprisonment for a term that may extend to seven years, a fine or both.
