The Labour Party says Nigeria is in a hostage situation under President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime, but it is positioned to take over the country at all levels in the 2023 general elections and provide good governance.

The party claimed that Peter Obi, its presidential candidate, would be the country’s messiah in 2023 to break the yoke of poverty and insecurity in the country.

The chairman of the party in Osun, Olamide Awosunle, stated this on Sunday while unveiling the party structure in the Ile-Ife zone.

The event was held at Afewonro Park, Enuwa, Ile-Ife.

Mr Awosunle said the party was committed to the growth and development of the country. He said the plans of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, could only materialise if elected in 2023.

Mr Awosunle decried the country’s security and economic challenges, saying that the Labour Party would reverse the ugly trend if given the opportunity.

“It is highly pathetic that Nigerians in their own country, now in a hostage situation, and there appear to be no meaningful and reasonable means of escape. In a country blessed with everything needed to be great, citizens are groaning under the yoke of insecurity and economic hardships,” the Labour Party chieftain explained.

He added, “Nigeria and the world should know that the Labour Party is the vehicle and Peter Obi is the driver to the actualisation of a new Nigeria.”

According to Mr Awosunle, with Mr Obi and Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, Nigeria is on the path to greatness.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by Busayo Obisakin, the national women leader and coordinator for the South-West, and other party chieftains in Osun.
