Nigerians should not condemn Tompolo over mere naira abuse allegations: EFCC

Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, has warned Nigerians against condemning Niger Delta warlord, Government ‘Tompolo’ Ekpemupolo, over allegations of naira abuse and mutilation.
“We have invited Tompolo and Nigerians know that. And we said there is no one who’s above the law,” Mr Olukoyede said in an interview. “Nobody should condemn Tompolo for the allegation. It is just a mere allegation for now.”
A snippet of the video of the interview of Mr Olukoyede went viral over the weekend.
In the video, the anti-graft czar said, “You cannot say Tompolo is guilty or not. We must give every Nigerian fear hearing. When he comes, we look at it. We have subjected the video to forensic analysis.”
He added, “We have invited him. Not until we conclude the case, we cannot say Tompolo is guilty or not. We must give every Nigerian fair hearing.”
With the EFCC arresting, prosecuting and jailing celebrities like Idris ‘Bobrisky’ Okuneye, Nigerians have reacted to naira abuse at Tompolo’s 54th birthday, berating the EFCC for selective arrest and prosecution of naira abusers.
However, the EFCC on May 12 said it would investigate Tompolo as “nobody is above the law”, reiterating that Tompolo has “questions to answer”.
