Nigerians won’t appreciate Buhari until he leaves office: Minister

Newly appointed Minister of State for Works and Housing, Mu’azu Sambo, says President Muhammadu Buhari is a “blessing” to the country but many would not appreciate him until he leaves office.
“Mr. President is a blessing to this country. I keep saying that the skeptics will not realize this until His Excellency is gone, Mr Sambo said, “but some of us who know that socio-economic development is tied to massive infrastructure development know that President Muhammadu Buhari has chosen the right course.”
Mr Sambo, made this statement while addressing staff of his ministry on his assumption of office on Wednesday, according to a statement by the ministry’s spokesperson Stephen Kilebi.
Mr Sambo was appointed minister of state for works and housing on Friday, December 24.
Mr Buhari has faced harsh criticisms for his poor handling of state affairs since he assumed office over six years ago.
Under Buhari’s watch, the country became the poverty capital of the world with record high unemployment rate standing at 33.3 per cent as of fourth quarter of 2020. This is also as the country twice entered economic recession under his regime.
Nigerians had hoped that Mr Buhari would deploy his experience as a retired general and former head of military junta to ward the country’s burgeoning insecurity. In contrast, the Boko Haram insurgency has persisted and even transmuted into bandits, seeping through all parts of the northern region.
Separatist agitations have also enveloped the South accusations of nepotism against Mr Buhari.
